I finally bit the bullet and just installed Windows into a VM. I know you don’t need to activate it but I wanted to change the background wallpaper and found a Windows Home licence key I purchased more than 5 years ago (!) and, to my surprise, it still works.
I mentioned a week or so ago that Facebook kept sending me e-mails about problems logging into Instagram. I thought that was a cynical attempt to get me to open the app but I’m not sure now; I’ve had a couple of password reset e-mails from different services lately.
Are there any other games for the Switch like Mario Kart that include an ‘auto’ mode so that very young children can play together with adults?
Just played our first ‘real’ 4-player multiplayer game as a family: Mario Kart on the Switch.
Got a bit melancholic last night thinking that but for the pandemic, we’d have been able to go to Tokyo Disneyland for my daughter’s fifth birthday.
Am starting to think these ‘Sorry to hear you’ve having trouble logging into Instagram’ e-mails are spam written in a scaremongering tone. I’ve barely used the app in years but I needed to look up something yesterday that caused me to launch it so they know there’s no problem.

Spotlight crashes as soon as I hit the S in ‘mes’ and I’m not sure how to fix it. I’ve tried restarting and rebuilding the Spotlight index and it’s not working. It only seems to be that precise combination that causes the issue.
I wish there were an easy way to install a command-line version of Windows inside a virtual machine. I think it’s possible but can’t find clear instructions of someone doing it.
I don’t know if Matt Yglesias is responsible for coining ‘Banana Republicans’ as a term to describe America’s crazy conservatives but it’s perfect.
I’m reading about conditions and restarts in Common Lisp and it’s blowing my mind.
