I remain a fan of Droplr but it’s really disappointing they still don’t have a (supported) iOS app.

It’s kind of a relief to see people start criticising the Apple Watch. Admittedly, it’s not for precisely the things that bugged me but the immediate love-in after the announcement blew my mind and seeing that pulled back a little at least reassures me that I’m not crazy.
It’s been a long five days.
I’m not quite sure where the day went.
I don’t mean to say people are wrong about their feelings about Dark Mode but it seems to be misunderstood (not helped by the name). Its purpose is to make the content stand out. The fact that web pages, e-mails, etc are ‘blinding’ is the point.
I wrote a how-to guide on pushing from 1Writer to a remote Git repository. It includes the JavaScript I use for the action.
Dear iOS Autocorrect
It’s been more than ten years and I can assure you that ‘Kapanese’ is always me misspelling ‘Japanese’. Feel free to start correcting that one at any time.
Your pal
Mike.
I’ve got an action in 1Writer that saves the currently open file to a local copy of my blog’s Jekyll repo, commits the change and pushes to GitHub. That sets off its own chain of actions that results in my blog automatically rebuilding itself. All with a single tap on my phone!
I’ve had an iPhone XS Max for a week. Here are some thoughts.
Face ID is both incredible and disappointing. The number of times it doesn’t work (or takes multiple attempts) is far below where it needs to be. This is compounded by the fact that with Touch ID, you can wipe your finger and retry. It’s not clear how to ‘retry’ with your face.
I want to enjoy reading fiction more but it always feels like a slog.
I started Creative Selection last night and I’m already halfway through. It’s excellent.
Keybase wouldn’t let me reuse my device name so I decided to stop using Keybase.
It’s 2018 and I cannot set up a recurring payment with my Japanese bank.
Reinstalling 1Writer solved the crashing loop but I lost the custom actions I spent all last night writing :(
I completely broke 1Writer with a JavaScript action that called editor.newFile('Some text.', 'path/to/a/file.md')
. I couldn’t get it out of a crashing loop, even with a force quit. Reinstalling it now to see if that fixes it.
The silver lining of needing to switch from Editorial is discovering the expressivity of 1Writer’s scripting. I’ve got an action that adds a numerical footnote to a Markdown document, renumbers all of the footnotes and then moves the cursor to the empty footnote definition.
Oh no. Now I understand why everyone was saying Editorial had died. It’s not been updated to work with larger screens.
How can it be that none of the animoji have an eyebrow you can raise?
Overcast’s new Now Playing screen just looks weird on the XS Max. The amount and position of the empty space was a little odd on the Plus but it’s truly bizarre on the Max. I much prefer Castro’s look but I don’t want to triage podcasts.
